March Makings…

Hello dearest reader! Yes, Spring has finally sprung (hurrah!) and it’s wonderful to spot all the darling daffodils and pretty primroses blooming in the big outdoors, as well as filling my home with the perfume of heavenly hyacinths. As you can see, I have been busy knitting myself a pair of March mittens to warm my chilly fingers on my wanderings. They were made from James C Brett’s ‘Lakeland’ chunky yarn, using a Sirdar knitting pattern. I’m just loving all the yarns with tonal shades in them at the moment, hence my choice of yarn for my latest jumper project: Stylecraft’s ‘Vintage Look’ life double knit yarn in a shade called ‘Autumn’…

If you’re wondering what happened to the khaki green cardigan I was knitting, well it has been completed (and looks lush) but is still awaiting the adornment of a few buttons which have yet to be purchased, so hopefully I will have a photo for you next time…

All these beautiful blooms bursting into life inspired me to start a little Spring scribbling on a floral theme. I added colour to this inky pattern with a few colouring pencils…

…but I’m not sure whether to leave this inky doodlings alone, or to add a splash of colour with watercolours…

Don’t flowers just fill your heart with joy, dear reader? Well I’m off to return to my jolly jumper project, so until next time – keep on crafting…

And So to Sew Squares…

IMG_20151122_162612

…and such a stack of them too! Yes, I’m sure you’ll be thrilled to know that I have finally finished knitting all the squares I needed to complete my cosy throw dear reader; all 63 of the little darlings! I thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with all the many stitch patterns I tried out and was actually a little sad to cast off the final square, as well as feeling a trifle daunted by the prospect of all that ‘sewing-together-of-squares’ scenario… Fear not dear reader chum! For I have summoned up a copious amount of courage to complete the trying task ahead of me ( along with lashings of tea and cake, of course).

Maybe it’s all the rain we’ve been having, but my doodlings have been feeling the blues of late, hence this little ink and watercolour paint piece I refer to as my ‘big blue blooms’…

IMG_20151122_165255

…and this one which is quite simply ‘blobby blue blobs’ (self-explanatory really)…

IMG_20151122_165626

In an attempt to cheer my sketchbook up, I created a little festive cheer with a seasonal sketch of one of my favourite birds:the robin…

IMG_20151122_164020

A little cutie, is he not? Bless his adorable red breast; doesn’t he just warm the cockles of your heart, dear reader chum? And I did so enjoy having my colouring pencils out for a play again, so much so that I dabbled with a dash of colouring-in, with my new grown-up colouring-in book on nature…
IMG_20151122_162922

A rather restrained and ‘grown-up’ start by me on the title page, but on the next page I just went wild with an exotic explosion of crazy colours because that’s how I roll and it is my colouring book after all…

IMG_20151122_163259
Now I definately feel like I have released my inner child with a nostalgic childhood pastime. Well, I can’t hang around here passing time with you dear reader, no matter how endearing your company is, for I have a skyscraper of a stack of squares to sew together, so I can have my cosy throw ready for snuggling up in once that frosty-chilly cold snap arrives! And sew on and sew on…

Crafting Cuddly Cosy

IMG_20150920_153610

A happy-hello to you my dear reader chum!I hope you have managed to keep toasty-warm during the rather chilly autumn mornings, although I must confess the daytimes have been pleasantly warm, dry and sunny – better than the dismal summer we had in fact! I’m still busy making a selection of squares of many stitch patterns with my trusty knitting needles (as you can see above) in the hope that I can create a cosy throw. I just love trying out different stitch patterns, as I’m thrilled when I first glimpse the exciting new pattern emerging; it’s like doodling with needles and yarn, sheer bliss…

IMG_20150920_153336

My throw-to-be is destined for my newly chalk-painted bed, which has already been the lucky recipient of my latest attempt at crafting up a bit of cuddly-cosy: a knitted cushion cover of stripes of various stitch patterns that took my fancy, in silver and charcoal greys.

IMG_20150920_152924

Believe me dear reader, it’s cuddlesome-cosy. I’ve also been-a-doodling again, this time with the added joy of watercolour paints. My first piece for your perusal is entitled ‘Blobs in Blue’ with said blobs composed of watercolour daubings and ink patterny doodlings layered over the top…

IMG_20150920_154209

My second doodly-delight has a watercolour wash of many stripy shades of blue overlaid with a smattering of patterning in indigo ink…

IMG_20150924_164635

Well I must crack on with those knitted squares dear reader; the nights are becoming chillier and I’m going to be needing that cosy throw pretty soon! Remember: keep crafting, keep creating, keep cosy…

Finding Feathers Fascinating…

IMG_20150419_180852

And a happy-hello to you dear reader! I hope my latest bloggings finds you in a sunny place, with a smile on your face. It certainly warms the soul to feel some sunshine on MY face, I have to confess dear reader! What arty-crafty doodahs have I been up to lately I hear you ask? Well, the feather-floating-above is rather a fat, fluffy clue as to my latest faddy fascination and hopefully there will be more to follow; possibly in watercolour paints, mmmm…

I also have a little pretty-playful-patterning to share with you;another one of my wandering walks with pretty pens…

IMG_20150414_082146

I might even let you have a teeny-tiny peeky-pook in my notebook next time, to peruse my jolly jottings, but only if you’re good…

On the crochet front, I have finally finished my first ever wearable crocheted garment! Woo-hoo!and ta-dah! and all that. I have to say I did have my doubts as to its wearability, or the possibility of it even resembling a recognisable piece of clothing, at certain points during its construction. I followed a pattern from Simply Crochet Magazine and it’s a cardi with three-quarter length sleeves in denim blue, 4 ply yarn…

IMG_20150414_082524

I have also been inundated with bunny orders lately – it must be Spring! My lounge has rather resembled a bunny autopsy area, what with all the bits of bunny-under-construction laying around! Here’s a pic of some beautiful bunny buddies who have already hopped off to new homes…

IMG_20150414_160951

My darling daughters have remarked that at least having bits of bunny all over the place all the time makes a change from bits of unicorn… Despite all the bunny making, I have found time to start knitting a lovely lacy scarf in gorgeous green yarn, made from recycled t-shirts; so that’s ‘green’ in colour and ‘green’ as in eco-friendly too, dear reader! Ho hum…

IMG_20150414_161351

Well I have a bunch of bunnies to make, so I had better hop to it (pardon the pun) and I’ll leave you with a couple of springtime shots from my garden, dearest reader chum. Keep on making…

Doodle Days…

IMG_20150120_163026

Dearest reader my days have been filled with delightful doodlings of late, something that always makes me oh-so-happy! The doodle above is a flowery ink one, which just sort of ‘bloomed’ from the top left corner. I rather liked doodling the sweeping lines, so carried them over into my next doodle…

IMG_20150120_162639

I also finally finished the triangular arty piece I’d been working on for some time. It took quite a while to draw out the triangular pattern correctly (sadly I do rather enjoy drawing triangles, strange I know) which I then coloured using coloured pencils. Finally, I doodled designs and patterns over the top with an ink pen. The bottom half is my favourite part and I may use those colour/pattern combinations again…

IMG_20150201_123844

I’m using the same coloured pencil/ink pen combo for the arty piece I’m working on at the moment. I’m planning to add a butterfly on the left, with some wise words in the middle space…

IMG_20150201_124430

I’ve also started another drawing, where I hope to combine a profile sketch with background geometric patterns/doodlings of some kind…

IMG_20150201_124855

I’ve been practising drawing hair to help with the above pic and I’m rather enjoying it! I’ll show you my ‘hairy’ sketches next time dear reader!

Another magical unicorn was created this week, as a friend asked me to crochet one for her friend’s daughter so that my friend’s unicorn (which she has called Nigel) can have a playmate to go on playdates with! Can you spot my new ‘unicorn’ themed purchase?

IMG_20150209_163707

That isn’t me in the photo though dear reader, it’s one of my darling daughters who was only allowed to wear my precious new t-shirt for the duration of the photo shoot!

Keeping to the ‘yarny’ theme, I have also been knitting cosy cowls. I knitted one in a chunky, navy blue yarn in one of my favourite stitches – American Moss Stitch – yes I know I keep going on about it reader, but it does produce an amazing texture…

IMG_20150201_162502

A friend at work liked it so much that she ordered one for herself, so I was busy knitting away at the weekend to finish it for her, what with it being so chilly hereabouts at the moment. Still with the knitting, I completed my cosy, cotton cowl last week in a gorgeous grey yarn. The yarn is made from recycled t-shirts (such fun!) and I used a leafy-lacy pattern which is a bit tricky, but so pretty and effective…

IMG_20150212_082838

Well I’m off to work on my ‘hairy’ art so I wish you all a lovey-loved-up Valentine weekend ♡ and remember to keep crafting with love…

Summer Seas Summer Sensation

IMG_20140821_102259

A super-sunny-smiley hello to you dear reader! As you can see I have completed my first summery project: my summer seas ripple blankie. I am muchly pleased with it and here is a larger, clearer pic of my rippling ripple blankie…

IMG_20140821_102057

It was great fun alternating all the different shades of sea blue and I am also totally taken with ripple stitch so can highly recommend it, although it is highly addictive, so beware! Personally I can’t wait to start my next ripple blankie…

Keeping to the summer seas theme, I have just started a new weaving which has a distinct sea-blues theme…

20140821_094809

as well as a smaller weaving which will (hopefully) include a few geometric shapes (triangles?) in black and white…

20140821_094922

Oooh I just adore weaving, it’s so relaxing and almost meditative. Keeping to the monochrome theme (I do like my ‘themes’) I have just completed a couple of black and white decorative items for my daughter’s room; a monochrome striped crocheted headboard cover to match darling-daughter’s new black and white bedding ensemble…

IMG_20140821_103814

…and some matching monochrome crocheted star bunting…

IMG_20140821_104207

…which all looks fab together…

20140821_100106

…all marvelously-magically-monochrome!

Still on the monochrome theme, well the ‘white’ bit anyway, I have been busy knitting white cozies for jars…

20140812_131152

…don’t they look pretty dear reader? They are a great way to make a rather plain little ordinary jam jar look much more appealing.

My Sharpies have also been having a play this week, doodling up a hearty little number…

20140821_095321

…a flowery-flower…

20140821_095113

…a rather random doodly-doodlings…

20140821_095149

…which ended up going round in circles…

20140821_095340

…and I think the circley-round one is my favourite, which one do you prefer dear reader? I also had a little play with some green ink pens, as I had an urge to draw some leafy-leaves…

20140821_095248

…such fun! Of course I have oodles of other arty-crafty projects on the go, such as a mouse version of Blossom Bunny, a granny squares blankie in pretty-pretty pastels and a totally triangular painting/doodlings, all of which I will have pics of for you to peruse next time dear reader (hopefully!) For now I will leave you with a happy-sunny-smiley pic of terrific Teignmouth in the sunshine; just one of the many beaches I have been knitting/crocheting/doodling on this summer. Go forth and craft in the sunny outdoors! I know I shall be…

Beautifully Bashful Blossom Bunny♡

20140715_181718-1

Hello there craft lovers! Yes as you can see, I finally plucked up the courage to embroider the facial features of the bunny I have been designing. I think she looks quite pretty and thankfully I didn’t spoil her with scarey-nightmare-inducing features! I also designed a fancy frock for her too; no off-the-peg fashion for this little diva! I’m really pleased with how she has turned out and am planning to use said pattern to crochet more bunnies with different dresses on (couldn’t possibly have two bunnies in the same frock, that just wouldn’t do!) and even a mouse, as I would just have to change the ears and swap the pom-pom tail (yes Blossom Bunny does have a perfect pom-pom tail but I couldn’t possibly show you, for she is far too bashful for that) for a long one. Oh and a pink nose too. Watch this space…

I also decided to hook myself up a little summery phone case: a stripy number with a decorative edging…

IMG_20140715_180550

It’s crocheted from a cool cotton yarn and I chose grey and pink simply because I’m loving pastels with greys right now. Talking of pastels with grey, I am also knitting a baby blankie in peach and grey. I’m making up my own pattern for it, which is based on decreasing odd numbers of the four row pattern repeat for double moss stitch towards the centre of the blankie, then the stripes increase in odd numbers towards the opposite end. I’m quite pleased with the stripe effect so far and I’m calling it my mathematical blankie…

IMG_20140715_175610

What do you reckon? I’m working on a couple of other blankies at the moment too; you could say dear reader, that I’m having a bit of a blankie-fest here! One of them is a black and white striped number I’m crocheting in treble stitch, which is destined to cover the headboard of my daughter’s bed to match her new bedding…

IMG_20140715_172231

I just love working with black and white, I think I just like the stark contrast. Mind you, I’m also loving muchly the ripple blankie I’m crocheting. I chose some blue and green yarn from my stash and didn’t realise until I had crocheted a few ripples, just how much it resembled the ripples of a warm, tropical sea…

IMG_20140715_174625

See what I mean? Are you feeling that warm, tropical sea vibe dear reader? Fab isn’t it and I have to say that I am well and truly hooked (pardon the pun) on ripple stitch now, so expect to see more rippled wonders emerging from my yarn stash in the future!

I also have a bit of a ‘thing’ about mandalas and have crocheted a few before from the wonderful Wink’s patterns in Simply Crochet magazine and they can be found in my crochet gallery. Here’s my latest mandala, also from a Wink pattern. I just love all the different crochet stitches you get to try out and all the pretty colours always make me smile. I must doodle a mandala sometime too…

IMG_20140715_173323

Talking of doodling dear reader, here’s my latest ink artings: a random patterning of summery orange, pink and green…

20140717_190839-1

I do so hope you are having a lovely Summer so far dear reader, but don’t stay indoors with your makings, go forth and craft in the sunshine!
