March Makings…

Hello dearest reader! Yes, Spring has finally sprung (hurrah!) and it’s wonderful to spot all the darling daffodils and pretty primroses blooming in the big outdoors, as well as filling my home with the perfume of heavenly hyacinths. As you can see, I have been busy knitting myself a pair of March mittens to warm my chilly fingers on my wanderings. They were made from James C Brett’s ‘Lakeland’ chunky yarn, using a Sirdar knitting pattern. I’m just loving all the yarns with tonal shades in them at the moment, hence my choice of yarn for my latest jumper project: Stylecraft’s ‘Vintage Look’ life double knit yarn in a shade called ‘Autumn’…

If you’re wondering what happened to the khaki green cardigan I was knitting, well it has been completed (and looks lush) but is still awaiting the adornment of a few buttons which have yet to be purchased, so hopefully I will have a photo for you next time…

All these beautiful blooms bursting into life inspired me to start a little Spring scribbling on a floral theme. I added colour to this inky pattern with a few colouring pencils…

…but I’m not sure whether to leave this inky doodlings alone, or to add a splash of colour with watercolours…

Don’t flowers just fill your heart with joy, dear reader? Well I’m off to return to my jolly jumper project, so until next time – keep on crafting…

Crafting Colour…

img_20161016_144131

And a jolly-cheery hello to you, my dearest reader! Don’t you just adore this time of year? I love watching the trees erupt into a blaze of glorious jewel-like colours, along with foraging for acorns and chestnuts (sorry squirrels) and picking pumpkins in their glorious array of shapes and shades. As you can see in the photo above, I love to fill my home with a constantly growing collection of autumn’s bounty (once again, apologies squirrels) which tones in quite happily with my crochet cushion cover, in shades of silver, graphite and mustard. Granny squares are most definately my not-so-secret passion at the moment, for not only did I crochet a cosy cushion cover using the groovy granny square, I also made a beautiful baby blanket…

img_20161016_143720

…which I am calling my Peony Poppet Blanket, as it is in peony shades of pale peach, fondant, candyfloss and white. The granny squares didn’t stop there however dear reader, for I have finally finished the Blossom Baby Blanket I started back in the spring, which is composed of pretty little candy-coloured squares of sherbet, white, candyfloss and fondant…

img_20161016_143201

Cute colours aren’t they? Colourful colouring has also been occurring in my Mollie Makes colouring book, with a bit of botanical beauty…

img_20160921_201720

Of course, it will probably soon be that time of year to crack out my wonderful winter wonderland colouring book, so I can cosy up in front of the fire for a spot of festive fun with my colouring pencils (rock and roll!) I’ve already been busy puzzling, another perfect pastime as the evenings begin to darken earlier…

img_20160921_201319

Well that’s all for now, dearest reader. Here’s wishing you a happy Halloween – stay spooky but keep crafting…

Beautiful Blanket Beginnings

IMG_20160219_140646

Yes dear reader, my cream quilt quest has begun, as requested by my darling daughter. Many, many squares have already been knitted in a buttery-soft, cream yarn, as I feverishly satisfy my addiction to trying out different stitch patterns. Who knows what new stitch pattern I might stumble upon? Let the adventure begin…

Still on the knitting theme, my latest scarf in autumnal shades has been completed and suitably renamed as my ‘Wodland Walk Wrap.’ Take a peek…

IMG_20160219_140003

Another cosy-cowl was also completed, this one simply knitted entirely in moss stitch…

IMG_20160219_135137

It was a partially finished project found lurking at the bottom of a bag of yarn I was sorting; I had been wondering where it had disappeared to! I also did a bit of nifty upcycling when I turned an old headboard cover I had crocheted some time ago from groovy granny squares into a cuddly cushion cover, with the addition of a few vintage buttons…

IMG_20160219_135605

One wet, windy, wild day was spent doodling wise words in ink, with a whispering of a floral flourish…

IMG_20160219_141255

Along with a heavenly houseplant hash…

IMG_20160219_140911

Well, spring has oh-so-nearly sprung dear reader, so I hope all your bulbs bloom brightly and I had better get back on with that blanket…

Such Snuggly Stitchings

IMG_20160116_164603

Ta-da! Yes, it’s finally complete – my cuddly, cosy throw of many, many squares and I am so pleased with it. I bet you can guess what I was stitching away at all over the festive period…

IMG_20160116_163917

…but it was a pleasure and a joy…

IMG_20160116_164232

…and looks jolly fabulous adorning my bed. Of course darling daughter tried to kidnap my pride and joy, only relenting on condition that I knit her one in cream and pale grey. Crafty minx…

As well as knitting the rather addictive lovely, lacy border for my fabulous throw whilst watching festive films, I also dabbled in a spot of colouring-in…

IMG_20160117_125901

That’s right dear reader, a perky pair of birds (which I turned into thrushes with a bit of extra shading and detailing) nibbling on holly berries…

IMG_20160117_125537

IMG_20160117_130210

…along with a snowy tree in a wintery sky…

IMG_20160117_130517

Further snugglesome stitchiness has also been knitted up in the form of a rather earthy/woodland toned scarf. The first section was knitted in double moss stitch, in a rather fitting mossy green…

IMG_20160103_132943

A section of lovely lattice stitch in a rusty brown followed…

IMG_20160103_133311

Chic chevron stitch in charcoal grey came next…

IMG_20160103_133643

Then there was a slip-stitch honeycomb pattern in honey-mustard…

IMG_20160103_134156

Finally, there was risotto stitch and dark, dark brown…

IMG_20160117_124621

So I’m off to stitch more snuggly, dear reader and remember: stay warm, snuggle up and keep cosy.

And So to Sew Squares…

IMG_20151122_162612

…and such a stack of them too! Yes, I’m sure you’ll be thrilled to know that I have finally finished knitting all the squares I needed to complete my cosy throw dear reader; all 63 of the little darlings! I thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with all the many stitch patterns I tried out and was actually a little sad to cast off the final square, as well as feeling a trifle daunted by the prospect of all that ‘sewing-together-of-squares’ scenario… Fear not dear reader chum! For I have summoned up a copious amount of courage to complete the trying task ahead of me ( along with lashings of tea and cake, of course).

Maybe it’s all the rain we’ve been having, but my doodlings have been feeling the blues of late, hence this little ink and watercolour paint piece I refer to as my ‘big blue blooms’…

IMG_20151122_165255

…and this one which is quite simply ‘blobby blue blobs’ (self-explanatory really)…

IMG_20151122_165626

In an attempt to cheer my sketchbook up, I created a little festive cheer with a seasonal sketch of one of my favourite birds:the robin…

IMG_20151122_163637

IMG_20151122_164020

A little cutie, is he not? Bless his adorable red breast; doesn’t he just warm the cockles of your heart, dear reader chum? And I did so enjoy having my colouring pencils out for a play again, so much so that I dabbled with a dash of colouring-in, with my new grown-up colouring-in book on nature…
IMG_20151122_162922

A rather restrained and ‘grown-up’ start by me on the title page, but on the next page I just went wild with an exotic explosion of crazy colours because that’s how I roll and it is my colouring book after all…

IMG_20151122_163259
Now I definately feel like I have released my inner child with a nostalgic childhood pastime. Well, I can’t hang around here passing time with you dear reader, no matter how endearing your company is, for I have a skyscraper of a stack of squares to sew together, so I can have my cosy throw ready for snuggling up in once that frosty-chilly cold snap arrives! And sew on and sew on…

Crafting Cuddly Cosy

IMG_20150920_153610

A happy-hello to you my dear reader chum!I hope you have managed to keep toasty-warm during the rather chilly autumn mornings, although I must confess the daytimes have been pleasantly warm, dry and sunny – better than the dismal summer we had in fact! I’m still busy making a selection of squares of many stitch patterns with my trusty knitting needles (as you can see above) in the hope that I can create a cosy throw. I just love trying out different stitch patterns, as I’m thrilled when I first glimpse the exciting new pattern emerging; it’s like doodling with needles and yarn, sheer bliss…

IMG_20150920_153336

My throw-to-be is destined for my newly chalk-painted bed, which has already been the lucky recipient of my latest attempt at crafting up a bit of cuddly-cosy: a knitted cushion cover of stripes of various stitch patterns that took my fancy, in silver and charcoal greys.

IMG_20150920_152924

Believe me dear reader, it’s cuddlesome-cosy. I’ve also been-a-doodling again, this time with the added joy of watercolour paints. My first piece for your perusal is entitled ‘Blobs in Blue’ with said blobs composed of watercolour daubings and ink patterny doodlings layered over the top…

IMG_20150920_154209

My second doodly-delight has a watercolour wash of many stripy shades of blue overlaid with a smattering of patterning in indigo ink…

IMG_20150924_164635

Well I must crack on with those knitted squares dear reader; the nights are becoming chillier and I’m going to be needing that cosy throw pretty soon! Remember: keep crafting, keep creating, keep cosy…

So, a Sunless Summer Spent…Saving the Universe!

IMG_20150903_123553

Well hello my lovely blog-reading friends! I hope you managed to have some fun this summer, despite all the gloomy damp weather. It was all a bit disappointing wasn’t it? As the sun failed to make many appearances in the sky for us, I have added a sunny yellow glow to my bloggings for you, by way of the delightful dahlia pic above. I just adore dahlias: so vervaciously vibrant they can’t fail to cheer you up.

If you managed to escape to anywhere exciting for the summer dear reader, I hope you managed to find some sunshine, for we certainly did when we visited wonderful Wales for our hols. During our time there we enjoyed the many delights of Cardiff such as the castle..

IMG_20150810_182957

IMG_20150810_182743

…all very impressive with rather a lot of steep steps that were fine to climb up but somewhat scarier to descend (eek!) We also loved ambling around the many Edwardian and Victorian shopping arcades…

IMG_20150811_203029

IMG_20150811_203332

…enjoyed a brew and Barabrith in the many cosy coffee bars…

IMG_20150811_201915

IMG_20150811_200917

IMG_20150811_200250

…we wondered at the many delights of Cardiff Bay, or Tiger Bay as the locals call it…

IMG_20150812_120951

…such as The Roald Dahl Plas…

IMG_20150812_120502

IMG_20150812_190400

…the mighty Millenium Centre…

IMG_20150812_185723

Oh, and did I mention that we saved the universe there too? Yes indeed, we visited The Doctor Who Experience and had an epic-awesome adventure working with the current Doctor Who to save the planet from various aliens…

IMG_20150812_114322

IMG_20150812_120126

IMG_20150812_114215

…and generally had a fab out-of-this-world experience…

IMG_20150812_115819

IMG_20150812_115929

We also visited the beautiful Barry and Barry Island, where we walked in the footsteps of TV’s Gavin and Stacey and I’m not gonna lie to you, it was crackin’!

IMG_20150812_184026

We were made up to visit Trinity Street where Stacey, Gwen (not Gwen from Budgeons), Bryn (don’t mention the fishing trip) and Doris lived, Marco’s where Stacey worked, the arcade where Nessa (sort of ) worked…

IMG_20150812_183902

…Boofy’s their chip shop of choice…

IMG_20150812_183332

…and sat on the same wall that Gavin, Stacey, Smithy and Nessa all perched on for that final episode and looked out to sea…

IMG_20150812_184656

…genuine!

Back in England, we had a delightful day out in Teignmouth: still as serene as ever…

IMG_20150903_123751

…a trip to Totness and Dartington…

IMG_20150820_121305

IMG_20150820_121500

…and gazed in awe at the beautiful, big, big skies of Budleigh…

IMG_20150903_123939

What have I been crafting up this summer? Well for starters I’ve only been at the chalk paint and had a go at a bit of upcycling! Yes I ‘updated’ my ‘dated’ solid pine bed with a lick of pebble grey chalk paint and I have to confess, I am rather chuffed with it…

IMG_20150826_122135

I must warn you though dear reader, painting furniture is seriously addictive, as I have been eyeing up other suitable candidates around my abode that look ripe for a quick makeover! My new watercolour paints had a quick testing too…

IMG_20150827_130926

…and my ink pen enjoyed a little ‘mindfulness zentangling’ or doodling as we know it…

IMG_20150827_131245

My crochet hook worked up a sweat on a chic chevron cushion I designed with a buttoned closure on the reverse…

IMG_20150826_122543

…along with a whimsical wall hanging for darling daughter, complete with tickly tassels and dreamy driftwood…

IMG_20150826_124907

A trio of charm bracelets were crocheted from a Mollie Makes’ kit and as there were three I let my two darling daughters squabble out the distribution between themselves; far too dangerous an area for me to venture into…

IMG_20150827_130537

My knitting needles have been happily stitching up some cosy treats for autumn, such as a textured caress of a cover for my notebook…

IMG_20150826_122837

…several squares in many, many patterns, in glorious greys for what will one day become a warming throw…

IMG_20150826_123750

…and a cosy cushion cover in gorgeous grey stripes of a selection of stitch patterns…

IMG_20150826_123323

I had a little go at crafting with leatherette via another Mollie Makes kit, this time a tropical cocktail of a couple of brooches…

IMG_20150830_145927

Thankfully there were two of them, so I was spared any teenage traumas when it came to sharing them out – phew! A bit of baking was also enjoyed which produced a lush lemon loaf…

IMG_20150826_121800

…it didn’t last long mind you! Bit like our summer… Well I will leave you now dear reader and as I began my bloggings with a dahlia, so I shall end with a dahlia, well, a jug full of the dashing darlings actually! Keep on crafting…
