Knittingness…

Hello there my lovely reader! I do hope my latest bloggings finds you full of the joys of Spring and bursting with fresh ideas for seasonal stitchings. As you can see, my cosy cardigan in khaki is complete. I’m muchly adoring the colour and following a gentle steaming, the Stylecraft yarn has once again produced a garment with a delightful drape. My second knitted niceness is my jolly jumper which has a moss stitch ribbed pattern to the front and back, adding a gorgeous texture to the rather wonderful self-striping effect of the Stylecraft Vintage Life yarn I used…

Sublime colours, aren’t they? Darling daughter has already tried it on and put a request in for a duplicate! Still on the knitty theme, I finally found a use for a couple of balls of Yarnfair self-striping yarn: a rather jaunty pair of slouchy socks…

This pretty-in-pastels pair is for darling daughter and as I’d forgotten quite how much I like knitting (and wearing) hand-knitted socks, I already have the itch to stitch another pair, so watch this space…

Remember that scrappy blankie I was working on from time-to-time? Well, it’s finished! Not only has it used up a fair stash of yarn scraps that would otherwise have gone to waste, it has also bought a smile to darling daughter’s face with all its super stripyness…

Of course, as one has two darling daughters a second scrappy blankie is already been hastily hooked up as we speak…

Over Easter I produced a prickly pair of embroidered cactus, courtesy of a Mollie Makes free craft kit I had hanging around…

Quite a couple of cuties, are they not? They have definately sparked a yearning for a spot of stitching; I’m thinking flouncy florals or beautiful botanicals…

Well I’m off to peruse a few embroidery books for inspiration, so I’ll leave you with a few seasonal shots from my latest wanderings. Until next time dear reader – keep on crafting!

Oh so snuggly…

img_20170128_175425

As you can see dear reader, I have begun the new year with a new blanket, crocheted from many, many squares (108 to be precise) in autumnal shades of Stylecraft yarn and finished with a frivolous trim of oh-so-delightful crocheted ruffles. I’m all set for sofa snuggles, yet darling daughters have taken a liking to it too, so let the blanket battles begin!

My trusty knitting needles now have a new project on the go: a cardigan in khaki double knit yarn, with deep ribbing to the hem and cuffs…

img_20170128_180619

I’m using a King Cole pattern and Stylecraft yarn but I’m still pondering my choice of buttons-shall I plump for wooden ones; a vintage style; ceramic beauties or just plain green? The possibilities are endless but intriguing. Whatever happens the end result will hopefully envelop me in snuggliness.

A super-soft shawl is also in the making; a further item to contribute to my quest for feeling oh-so-snuggly…

img_20170128_180117

I just love how the lace pattern develops with every row, as it looks so effective and textural. I’m using a gorgeous grey 4ply yarn by Sirdar, which is rather aptly named ‘Snuggly’ so it was obviously meant to be! I’m following a pattern from Laura Strutt’s book ‘Modern Crocheted Shawls & Wraps’ and can’t wait to get working on it again. Once finished, I’m sure it will keep me wonderfully warm on winter walks but for now I will leave you with a few frosty photographs from my most recent winter wanderings. Until next time dear reader: keep on crafting…

*☆*☆* So Seasonal *☆*☆*

img_20161211_150800

A holly-jolly hello to you, my dearest reader! I do so hope you are feeling fabulously festive, for I am thoroughly immersing myself in all things Christmasie, as you can see from the pic above of my Victorian style seasonal stitching in satin stitch. My soul jingles just from gazing at it…

A bounty of beautiful bunnies dressed in berry shades have been completed and then whisked away ( along with another merry monkey) to become cuddlesome Christmas companions, for good boys and girls on Christmas morning…

img_20161211_150158

img_20161128_172607

Hankering after huddlesome hugs myself, I have been hastily hooking away at my granny squares. As I am soooooooo impatient, I have already begun to stitch some squares together, just to get an inkling of what my wonderful winter warmer will look like…

img_20161211_150509

So super snuggly, I think you’ll agree? Now dearest reader, you know how I adore puzzling away at a puzzle? Well, my current puzzling project to ponder over is a fabuously festive, jolly jigsaw…

img_20161211_151051

…complete with a Christmas cuppa, obviously. Ooh, did I mention that as well as our usual ‘not-really-real’ Christmas tree, we also have a ‘really-real’ Christmas tree this year? He’s rooted in a rather festive red pot and although he’s only about three feet tall, he’s bursting with seasonal charm. Darling daughter has named him David for some unfathomable reason and he has become thoroughly spoilt and pampered. I remembered reading or hearing somewhere that a real tree should be left undecorated for a week once it was indoors, but we couldn’t resist placing one teeny-tiny decoration on a branch whilst he wasn’t looking, just to get him used to the idea…

img_20161211_151323

Thankfully, at the end of the week he hadn’t thrown the decoration off in disgust, so in order not to shock the little fellow, we crawled in ‘commando-style’ on our bellies with more decorations (under cover of darkness) as well as descending on a wire from above, ‘ninja-style,’ to drop on a set of festive fairy lights. So far, I don’t think he’s noticed …

Hopefully you too are feeling fabulously festive by now dear reader, so I will leave you with a heartfelt wish for a crafty-creative Christmas, full of marvellously merry makingness. Jingle on…

Creature Comforts…

img_20161126_222242

Yes indeed dear reader, once again it’s that time of year when you need to start crafting comfort of one sort or another and for me that means – a new blankie! As you can see in the pretty-pic above, my new blankie has begun, hoorah! It will be formed from many, many gorgeous granny squares, in delightfully autumnal shades of dark brown, mocha, khaki, copper and gold; my heart warms with a toasty glow, just by looking at those adorable little squares!

Of course I haven’t just been crocheting comfort for me, myself and I, dear reader, for I have also been beavering away at creating more of my crocheted creatures, which I hope will bring cuddlesome comfort to others out there in the big wide world – yes, that’s right dear reader you’ve guessed it, more bunnies…

img_20161126_222511

Beautiful bunch of bunnies aren’t they? It seems a shame to split them up as they seem to get along so well, but I’m sure they will be muchly loved by whoever decides to give them a new home, bless ’em. Ooh, musn’t forget monkey, for how could I anyhow, when he is causing much mishief and mayhem around here right now…

img_20161128_172344

Beware dear reader, don’t let his cheeky little smile fool you…

img_20161128_172607

…as he’s usually been up to something suspicious…

img_20161128_172830

Watch it monkey, I’m on to you…

img_20161128_173055

Ooh you cheeky chappie you, behave! Whoever adopts you is definately in for some jolly japes and gallons of gigglesome fun. It will certainly be quiet around here once he’s moved out, that’s for sure. Well, I need to return forthwith to my comfort-creations, so stay toasty dear reader and keep crafting…

Crafting Colour…

img_20161016_144131

And a jolly-cheery hello to you, my dearest reader! Don’t you just adore this time of year? I love watching the trees erupt into a blaze of glorious jewel-like colours, along with foraging for acorns and chestnuts (sorry squirrels) and picking pumpkins in their glorious array of shapes and shades. As you can see in the photo above, I love to fill my home with a constantly growing collection of autumn’s bounty (once again, apologies squirrels) which tones in quite happily with my crochet cushion cover, in shades of silver, graphite and mustard. Granny squares are most definately my not-so-secret passion at the moment, for not only did I crochet a cosy cushion cover using the groovy granny square, I also made a beautiful baby blanket…

img_20161016_143720

…which I am calling my Peony Poppet Blanket, as it is in peony shades of pale peach, fondant, candyfloss and white. The granny squares didn’t stop there however dear reader, for I have finally finished the Blossom Baby Blanket I started back in the spring, which is composed of pretty little candy-coloured squares of sherbet, white, candyfloss and fondant…

img_20161016_143201

Cute colours aren’t they? Colourful colouring has also been occurring in my Mollie Makes colouring book, with a bit of botanical beauty…

img_20160921_201720

Of course, it will probably soon be that time of year to crack out my wonderful winter wonderland colouring book, so I can cosy up in front of the fire for a spot of festive fun with my colouring pencils (rock and roll!) I’ve already been busy puzzling, another perfect pastime as the evenings begin to darken earlier…

img_20160921_201319

Well that’s all for now, dearest reader. Here’s wishing you a happy Halloween – stay spooky but keep crafting…

img_20161016_144434

As autumn arrives…

IMG_20160822_160051

…it’s obviously time to crack out those autumnal shades of yummy yarn again, which I am happily crocheting into a cuddly cushion cover of the circular variety, as shown in the pic above. I must try to slow down a trifle though, as crocheting in speedy spirals can make me a little dizzy dear reader! Such fun! Still on the cosy cushion covers theme, I have also started to hook up a granny square style one in shades of graphite, silver and mustard, mmm…really liking that mustard colour right now, particularly with grey…

IMG_20160827_174519

Expect to see more mustard yarn around these parts in the future! Apart from creating some rather grown-up items for the home, a few fun fripperies have also been rolling off the parental production line to keep my darling daughters delighted, commencing with a trio of crochet cacti from a Simply Crochet magazine pattern (yes, you did hear that correctly: crocheted cacti!) …

IMG_20160818_162109

Practically perfect pricklies, are they not? My other rather jolly creation, which will definately bring a smile to your face dear reader, is Baby Groot, an adorable Marvel character from the film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ (pattern from Twinkie Chan) …

IMG_20160814_164748

Such a cheerful chappy isn’t he? A little more cheerfulness will be filling the household soon once I have finished hooking up my latest crocheted creature – a delightful daschund!

IMG_20160822_160524

Of course she will have a super stripy section too as you can see. Ooh, talking of stripes, following a long-awaited rummage through my yarn stash mixed with a bit of sorting out, I managed to gather together a whole bounteous basketful of balls of yarn ends, simply crying out to be crocheted into a scrappy blankie, where each row is a different colour yarn…

IMG_20160818_163213

Super stripy and such fun to work on! It’s not the only blanket I have on the go at the moment though ( you know what I’m like) as I’ve been meaning to get going on another ripple blanket, this time in shades of kiwi and cream…

IMG_20160818_162655

Well, that’s a fair bit of creativeness for to peruse dear reader, I will bid you farewell and leave you with a few favourite pics from my wonderful week in Wales this summer…

Summery Stitchings…

IMG_20160715_204341

No, you’re eyes do not deceive you dearest reader, that is a completed cream quilt of many, many squares in several stitches you see before you! Darling daughter is dutifully delighted with her beautiful blanket and I’m oh-so slightly sad that my pursuit of patterns to tempt my knitting needles is over. Never mind, here’s some close-up pics of those many, many squares (70 to be precise) each and every one unique (yes, 70 different stitch patterns) for you to feast your eyes on dear reader…

IMG_20160715_204807

bear with…

IMG_20160715_205039

there’s more…

IMG_20160715_205357

…and more…

IMG_20160715_205702

…ooh, don’t forget that lovely, lacy border…

IMG_20160715_205925

If you feel the urge to crack out your knitting needles and grab yourself a stash of yummy yarn to start your own blanket of many, many squares, then go for it dear reader! All I did was to select stitch patterns that required 37-39 stitches per row in order for the squares to be of a similar size. My squares were all knitted in double knit yarn on 4mm needles and I found the stitch patterns from various sources, including Debbie Bliss books, knitting magazines and the Deramores stitch blog amongst others. Of course you don’t have to aim for a huge number of squares, you could always make a smaller, equally lovely blankie, with just a few knitted squares. You could even make a fab textured blanket from simply mixing squares of plain knitted squares, such as stocking stitch, garter stitch and moss stitch, or even choosing cool colour combinations – there are endless possibilities to fit individual abilities, just give it a go…

My summery stitchings continued with a candy-coloured granny square blankie, edged with a splash of sunshine yellow for the scalloped border…

IMG_20160726_135742

Isn’t it a cutie? I used shades of lemon, spring green, cloud blue, wisteria and clematis Stylecraft Special DK. Using the same summery shades, a bounty of bunting was also created to match from a pattern by Nicki Trench in her book Cute & Easy Crochet…

IMG_20160624_163736

Such a cheerful bunch of bunting! Well that’s it for now dear reader, I do so hope you are muchly blessed with many, many hazy-lazy, sunshiny days until the next time we meet. I’m off to stitch in the sunshine, so shall leave you with a few of my favourite flowery pics from some summery-sunny walks…
