So, a Sunless Summer Spent…Saving the Universe!

IMG_20150903_123553

Well hello my lovely blog-reading friends! I hope you managed to have some fun this summer, despite all the gloomy damp weather. It was all a bit disappointing wasn’t it? As the sun failed to make many appearances in the sky for us, I have added a sunny yellow glow to my bloggings for you, by way of the delightful dahlia pic above. I just adore dahlias: so vervaciously vibrant they can’t fail to cheer you up.

If you managed to escape to anywhere exciting for the summer dear reader, I hope you managed to find some sunshine, for we certainly did when we visited wonderful Wales for our hols. During our time there we enjoyed the many delights of Cardiff such as the castle..

IMG_20150810_182957

IMG_20150810_182743

…all very impressive with rather a lot of steep steps that were fine to climb up but somewhat scarier to descend (eek!) We also loved ambling around the many Edwardian and Victorian shopping arcades…

IMG_20150811_203029

IMG_20150811_203332

…enjoyed a brew and Barabrith in the many cosy coffee bars…

IMG_20150811_201915

IMG_20150811_200917

IMG_20150811_200250

…we wondered at the many delights of Cardiff Bay, or Tiger Bay as the locals call it…

IMG_20150812_120951

…such as The Roald Dahl Plas…

IMG_20150812_120502

IMG_20150812_190400

…the mighty Millenium Centre…

IMG_20150812_185723

Oh, and did I mention that we saved the universe there too? Yes indeed, we visited The Doctor Who Experience and had an epic-awesome adventure working with the current Doctor Who to save the planet from various aliens…

IMG_20150812_114322

IMG_20150812_120126

IMG_20150812_114215

…and generally had a fab out-of-this-world experience…

IMG_20150812_115819

IMG_20150812_115929

We also visited the beautiful Barry and Barry Island, where we walked in the footsteps of TV’s Gavin and Stacey and I’m not gonna lie to you, it was crackin’!

IMG_20150812_184026

We were made up to visit Trinity Street where Stacey, Gwen (not Gwen from Budgeons), Bryn (don’t mention the fishing trip) and Doris lived, Marco’s where Stacey worked, the arcade where Nessa (sort of ) worked…

IMG_20150812_183902

…Boofy’s their chip shop of choice…

IMG_20150812_183332

…and sat on the same wall that Gavin, Stacey, Smithy and Nessa all perched on for that final episode and looked out to sea…

IMG_20150812_184656

…genuine!

Back in England, we had a delightful day out in Teignmouth: still as serene as ever…

IMG_20150903_123751

…a trip to Totness and Dartington…

IMG_20150820_121305

IMG_20150820_121500

…and gazed in awe at the beautiful, big, big skies of Budleigh…

IMG_20150903_123939

What have I been crafting up this summer? Well for starters I’ve only been at the chalk paint and had a go at a bit of upcycling! Yes I ‘updated’ my ‘dated’ solid pine bed with a lick of pebble grey chalk paint and I have to confess, I am rather chuffed with it…

IMG_20150826_122135

I must warn you though dear reader, painting furniture is seriously addictive, as I have been eyeing up other suitable candidates around my abode that look ripe for a quick makeover! My new watercolour paints had a quick testing too…

IMG_20150827_130926

…and my ink pen enjoyed a little ‘mindfulness zentangling’ or doodling as we know it…

IMG_20150827_131245

My crochet hook worked up a sweat on a chic chevron cushion I designed with a buttoned closure on the reverse…

IMG_20150826_122543

…along with a whimsical wall hanging for darling daughter, complete with tickly tassels and dreamy driftwood…

IMG_20150826_124907

A trio of charm bracelets were crocheted from a Mollie Makes’ kit and as there were three I let my two darling daughters squabble out the distribution between themselves; far too dangerous an area for me to venture into…

IMG_20150827_130537

My knitting needles have been happily stitching up some cosy treats for autumn, such as a textured caress of a cover for my notebook…

IMG_20150826_122837

…several squares in many, many patterns, in glorious greys for what will one day become a warming throw…

IMG_20150826_123750

…and a cosy cushion cover in gorgeous grey stripes of a selection of stitch patterns…

IMG_20150826_123323

I had a little go at crafting with leatherette via another Mollie Makes kit, this time a tropical cocktail of a couple of brooches…

IMG_20150830_145927

Thankfully there were two of them, so I was spared any teenage traumas when it came to sharing them out – phew! A bit of baking was also enjoyed which produced a lush lemon loaf…

IMG_20150826_121800

…it didn’t last long mind you! Bit like our summer… Well I will leave you now dear reader and as I began my bloggings with a dahlia, so I shall end with a dahlia, well, a jug full of the dashing darlings actually! Keep on crafting…

Doodle Days…

IMG_20150120_163026

Dearest reader my days have been filled with delightful doodlings of late, something that always makes me oh-so-happy! The doodle above is a flowery ink one, which just sort of ‘bloomed’ from the top left corner. I rather liked doodling the sweeping lines, so carried them over into my next doodle…

IMG_20150120_162639

I also finally finished the triangular arty piece I’d been working on for some time. It took quite a while to draw out the triangular pattern correctly (sadly I do rather enjoy drawing triangles, strange I know) which I then coloured using coloured pencils. Finally, I doodled designs and patterns over the top with an ink pen. The bottom half is my favourite part and I may use those colour/pattern combinations again…

IMG_20150201_123844

I’m using the same coloured pencil/ink pen combo for the arty piece I’m working on at the moment. I’m planning to add a butterfly on the left, with some wise words in the middle space…

IMG_20150201_124430

I’ve also started another drawing, where I hope to combine a profile sketch with background geometric patterns/doodlings of some kind…

IMG_20150201_124855

I’ve been practising drawing hair to help with the above pic and I’m rather enjoying it! I’ll show you my ‘hairy’ sketches next time dear reader!

Another magical unicorn was created this week, as a friend asked me to crochet one for her friend’s daughter so that my friend’s unicorn (which she has called Nigel) can have a playmate to go on playdates with! Can you spot my new ‘unicorn’ themed purchase?

IMG_20150209_163707

That isn’t me in the photo though dear reader, it’s one of my darling daughters who was only allowed to wear my precious new t-shirt for the duration of the photo shoot!

Keeping to the ‘yarny’ theme, I have also been knitting cosy cowls. I knitted one in a chunky, navy blue yarn in one of my favourite stitches – American Moss Stitch – yes I know I keep going on about it reader, but it does produce an amazing texture…

IMG_20150201_162502

A friend at work liked it so much that she ordered one for herself, so I was busy knitting away at the weekend to finish it for her, what with it being so chilly hereabouts at the moment. Still with the knitting, I completed my cosy, cotton cowl last week in a gorgeous grey yarn. The yarn is made from recycled t-shirts (such fun!) and I used a leafy-lacy pattern which is a bit tricky, but so pretty and effective…

IMG_20150212_082838

Well I’m off to work on my ‘hairy’ art so I wish you all a lovey-loved-up Valentine weekend ♡ and remember to keep crafting with love…

Huggable House♡

IMG_20141221_124156

And a jolly-jingly-jangly hello to you my fellow crafting chums! I hope I find you suitably nestled in front of your twinkly tree, feasting on festive food and full of Christmas cheer! As you can see, I have completed my latest knitted pillow design: a hug-worthy, housey-housey cushion. I’m so pleased with how the triangular intarsia roof turned out and shall use this pattern more in future….

I also had to forage around in my felt this week, as a friend wanted me to make a foody felt brooch as a present for a relative. Well, here’s the tiny-tasty-treat I created: a magical-mini-morsel of a fat-free-forkful!

IMG_20141221_123756

Talking of food, but this time the really-real variety, I’ve been baking up some tasty treats in my kitchen today: gingerbread snowflake cookies!

IMG_20141221_161450

…and before you ask dear reader, yes they are truly scrumptious and no, I can’t possibly share them… I can however share the first pic of my chocolate Santa collection with you. I make a new collection of the jolly festive chaps every Christmas and so far this year I have a grand total of 8! So excited dear reader! I just love chocolate Santas…

IMG_20141221_142321

Aren’t they adorable? They just make me smile when I look at them and fill me with a festive glow☆ I’ll  leave you now my dear reader friend, with a seasonal health and safety warning from my knitted mate Rodney Reindeer…

Having a Whale of a Time!

IMG_20141112_162119

Whale hello there dear reader! How are things with you, my craft-loving chum? As you can see I have a new creature creation: a fabric whale sewn from my own pattern. Alas I no longer have the gorgeous grey whale pictured in all his glory floating above, for he was sold at my last craft sale (farewell my fishy friend) but I am sure he has gone to a cuddlesome-cosy and hugful home♡ Yes I had a fab time at my craft sale dear reader, thank you for asking, as I sold oodles of my makeriness to lots of lovely, craft-loving customers (bless them all). Want to see some pics of my crafty offerings on show? Thought so…

IMG_20141123_124406

IMG_20141123_124634

Did you spot my cute new crocheted baby bear bootees, reader? If you would like a closer peeky-perusal, here’s a couple of close-up-pics for you…

IMG_20141109_120627

IMG_20141109_120830

Aren’t they simply adorable? I have also hooked up some pretty-in-pink and blue-for-a-boy baby shoes, in 100% cotton yarn for dainty feet…

IMG_20141109_124027

IMG_20141109_120401

Do you remember the trio of unicorns I was crocheting for my friend’s triplet girlies? Well I managed to finish them in time for Santa to nestle into a spare spot on his sleigh, all ready for the big day, and here they are…

IMG_20141109_122405

IMG_20141109_122135

Mummy-of-triplet-girlies was very pleased with them as was Santa, as he could do with a bit of unicorn magic to help his sleigh fly that little bit faster you know *☆*☆*☆*

Talking of flying sleighs, I’ve been pattern designing again, this time a little Rudolph Christmas tree decoration, complete with jingly-jangly bell dear reader, such fun!

IMG_20141109_122555

And then my pattern designing turned to felt; first for a trio of foxy-fab felt brooches, complete with girly blushes…

IMG_20141109_121941

…of which I will definately be keeping one for me-myself-and-I! The same goes for the crazy camper van felt key charms I designed, but which colour should I choose? Decisions, decisions dear reader…

IMG_20141109_121425

IMG_20141109_121133

IMG_20141109_121707

Just love camper vans♡ I used to own a blue VW camper which had a rather jolly red and white striped push-up roof…aaah, sweet memories… And still on the retro theme, I completed my cloud cushion sewn from vintage fabric, with hand-embroidered ‘Daydream Believer’ wording and detailing, as well as felt and crocheted flowers with beads and buttons…

IMG_20141109_122824

Phew! Now that’s a whole load of makeriness indeed, dear reader. Am I resting my head on my hippy-chick cloud cushion I hear you ask? No, definately not reader chum, for darling daughter is in need of a cosy-cuddly-cowl so my needles are hastily click-clacking away with some rather lovely powder blue chunky yarn. I will leave you with a work-in-progress pic, complete with a little festive snow globe to get you into the seasonal spirit *☆*☆*☆*keep crafting…

Been Bath, Been Baking, Been Busy!

Well hello there dear reader! Yes indeed I have been to beautiful Bath recently, I have been baking cake and cookies, I have been crocheting and knitting, so I have indeed been busy-busy-busy! First of all I will let you peruse a few pics of my holiday in the beautiful city of Bath; where I of course visited the Roman Baths…

IMG_20140803_124610

… where it was just so breathtaking to stand on the terrace with the Abbey in the background, surrounded by tourists from all over the world. Then there was the Abbey itself…

IMG_20140802_184404

…with its inspiring stained glass windows…

IMG_20140803_125432

…and superb ceiling…

IMG_20140803_125640

There was yet more awesome architecture with The Circus…

IMG_20140803_125135

…a sensationally spherical street, along with The Royal Crescent…

IMG_20140803_130118

…which also had a rather interesting Georgian museum at No.1. So if you are a fan of architecture, as I am, then Bath is right up your street! I also visited the Jane Austen centre, truly inspiring and well worth a visit, but particularly fab for me as I studied Austen’s novels for my English Literature A Level. Plus you also get to dress up in a bit of Austen-like finery if you so wish! Needless to say dear reader, I failed to find my Mr Darcy there…

20140806_210634

Whilst in Bath I also had my first Bath Bun at the Bath Bun Tea Shop…

20140729_160344

…and a famous Sally Lunn Bun at the Sally Lunn teashop, the oldest house in Bath…

20140727_154814

…and the bun is as big as a plate and you have to eat it with a knife and a fork! I had mine with milk jam, which tasted just like salted caramel…mmm…

When I returned to my humble abode I was inspired to do a bit of my own baking so made some sultana cookies and an apricot and almond loaf cake, from my own recipe…

20140806_145602

If anyone would like the recipe just let me know and I’ll endeavour to include it in my next bloggings. As for crochet, I’ve been busy making up a couple of free kits from two of my favourite magazines: Simply Crochet which involved a charming ooh-ooh owl key charm…

IMG_20140806_195941

…and Mollie Makes’ cheerful cherries brooch…

IMG_20140806_195529

As for knitting, I have just started a lacy snood with some yummy yarn I purchased at the fab ‘Wool Bath’ shop; it’s by Debbie Bliss and is a mix of cotton, silk and linen and yes I can hear you saying “Ooh, sounds pricey!” dear reader, but it was half price in the sale and I only needed 100g for this cute little project…

IMG_20140806_200457

Looking lush me thinks, and it’s super-silky-soft too! I also bought a couple of balls of cotton yarn in a rather perfect-pastel-peach…

20140806_184019

…and I’m rather liking the pink and peach together actually, bit like a peach melba! Well I’d better leave you in peace now dear reader, as there has been rather a lot of pics this blog, so you’re probably a bit overcome with all the visual excitement and need to sit down quietly with a cuppa, oh and some cake of course, to restore your inner calm. I shall leave you with a positive pic of a pretty pavement pansy; proof that even the powerful pavement slab can’t prevent the pansy from it’s destiny of bringing prettiness to a grey, grey world…

Thanking Fab Followers!

20140319_081358

Yes thank you dear reader! For unbelievably I reached the giddy heights of having 20 followers of my humble little arty-crafty bloggy thing this week! It is truly heart-warming to know that there are 20 lovely dear reader chums out there. I do hope I can keep you all entertained with my makeryness and crafty adventures, as well as inspiring you to get stuck-in with some creating!

I also have more exciting news dear reader, for I have finally purchased an electric sewing machine! Yes, following my recent exploits with a brand new sewing machine, which rather alarmingly kept sewing all by itself even when my foot was NOT pressing the foot pedal, I now have a much more friendly machine that only sews when I intend it to do so. I am very grateful to the muchly helpful lady at The Exeter Sewing Machine Company http://exetersewing.co.uk who was very patient with me with regards to my foot pedal fears and other ‘issues’!

20140319_154653

I have never owned an electric sewing machine before, having only ever used a hand-operated vintage Singer, so am still in the ‘tentative getting to grips with it’ mode at the moment. So bear with on the sewing front, dear reader! The lovely and talented Jane Foster http://janefoster.co.uk also visited the Exeter Sewing Machine Company this week which is a bit of a coincidence, as the first item I sewed together on my super new sewing machine was the Jane Foster dog sewing kit that came with an issue of the fab Mollie Makes magazine! How spooky is that?!? And here is that rather dashing Daschund..

20140318_161523-1

Not bad for my first machine sewing me thinks. Talking of Mollie Makes http://www.molliemakes.com the latest issue is just as fab as always and am rather smitten with Monsieur Lapin so have my hook poised ready to crochet the chap forth with…

20140317_081516

Talking of crocheted bunnies (I do so hope you are noticing all these lovely links dear reader) I also hooked up a cutie-pie of a bunny brooch this week from a Simply Crochet magazine pattern http://www.simplycrochetmag.com in prepartion for my Eastery ensemble. So I shall leave you with a Springful pic of my happy-hoppy bunny, as I have some makings to be getting on with and I need to hop to it (sorry)…
